Dorothea immigrated to WA in 1999 from Germany. She studied Physiotherapy for in Berlin in 1977, fully qualifying in 1980. She worked in many different clinics and facilities all over Germany. From 1987 – 1999 Dorothea ran her own Clinic for Sport physiotherapy in Darmstadt, Germany After getting acquainted to Kinesiology in 1991 Dorothea was delighted to have finally found the link, which was missing in her work so far, the link between pure bodywork and the work with the whole person in its unity of body - mind - soul. During the many years, in which she has been teaching Brain-Gym to children and adults she found, that Brain-Gym itself is an enormously beneficial pre-activity for other therapy exercises. Here in Applecross - Western Australia she is running a busy little clinic, combining Reflexology, Dorn spinal alignment work, therapeutic massages, Personal training with Nutritional Consultations . She also specializes in Educational Kinesiology, seeing children and adults in one on one consultations. She also regularly presents at conferences and other events. Visit her website!: www.liveandlearn.net.au What is Dorn Therapy? This gentle non manipulative therapy successfully helps you with back pain and head aches. Dorn Therapy was established in the 1980s by Dieter Dorn in Germany. It has in the meantime advanced to one of the leading back & neck pain relief therapies in Europe. The key to Dorn Therapy is movement. Through gentle muscular movements the spine is more open to change and the nervous system is kept busy. The therapy is not preoccupied with holding the spine in position, this makes it easier for the vertebrae to slip back into their proper position. There is no bending of joints or manipulation involved in this work, so generally there is very little pain experienced. An initial visit will start with a check for the hips for twists and of a difference in the leg length. 80 % of people have a difference in length of their legs, which results in imbalance of the pelvis and the entire spine. The causes are many and varied, starting from birth, but simply always folding your legs over will cause a sub-luxation in the hip joints with negative effects on the posture. By gently repositioning the hip joints and balancing the hips the first step towards relaxation on the spinal muscle system and pain relief is achieved. Can DORN SPINAL THERAPY help your children? YES! It makes sense to balance any leg length differences in children, before they even create problems for their hips and ultimately backs. Even babies can be looked at and treated without any negative side effects. Children that sit at their desk for hours experience stiffness in their back, headaches and visual stress. Regular check ups in children and adolescents help prevent or treat the negative side effects of heavy schoolbags and long hours in "cool postures" or in front of computers. Dorothea Bassett of the Applecross “Live and Learn” clinic studied Dorn Therapy, which is yet quite new to Australia. As Dorothea specializes in Learning Enhancement for children with all kinds of learning difficulties, she experienced a great improvement for many of her little customers. She regularly sees clients at her clinic and combines all her therapeutic skills, taking the Holistic approach: While Dorn Therapy can be practiced with great results on its own, it also can be used very successfully alongside other therapies, such as kinesiology and reflexology.
